A cautionary travel tale

It is a universally known fact that very few things will beat an English or European Christmas. While it’s not always cold enough to snow, the Brits – and their European counterparts – know how to lay on the festive spirit.

Two years back I celebrated Christmas in Italy and New Years in France. It was as epic as it sounds. This year, I am fortunate to be in the UK over the festive period. Ever the planner, I booked my economy class flight on British Airways at the end of October so that I could secure my visa in good time.

The Cowboy argues that we should have gone Business, if just to save my constant back lower issues. I was not being cheap, it’s just…have you seen the price of a Business or First class ticket lately? Being budget conscious, my poor Randelas are better spent on my destination activities.

Today I can kick myself. British Airways have a ridiculous offer of 40% of their Club World fares. This means that the price of business class seat is cut to R32 014 return on direct flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Better yet, if you’re planning to do a Euro Christmas, you can add this to your itinerary.

I am gutted.

Things is, while economy does the job, Club World offers flat beds, delicious menus and wine lists, as well as Club Kitchen, which allow travellers to help themselves to snacks after the main meal service. Uuuurgh. Deserving of a damn princess, right?

So, listen…this is my cautionary tale. The sale starts today and end on Thursday and is valid for travel between 2 December 2014 and 28 February 2015. Do the maths – this is enough time for you to book your flight, get your UK visa and get your swag on in Business.

I know. You can thank me later.
